About Michael Bastian
For over 40 years, Michael Bastian has proudly called Mississauga home, including the
past 26 years in Ward 6, where he and his wife raised their son and daughter. As a longtime
resident, community volunteer, and accomplished executive leader, Michael understands
what matters most to local families.
He is running to bring strong leadership, accountability, and a resident-first approach to
City Hall, helping ensure Ward 6 continues to be a wonderful place to live, work, raise a
family, and age with dignity.
A Career Built on Delivering Results

Michael is not a career politician. He is a proven, battle-tested executive leader with
more than 30 years of senior leadership experience across municipal healthcare, long-
term care, facilities management, labour relations, construction, and major capital
projects.
Throughout his career, Michael has successfully navigated complex government and
regulatory environments, led large organizations through change, and collaborated with
employees, unions, boards, municipal leaders, government agencies, and
multidisciplinary project teams.
Known as a disciplined and hands-on leader, Michael understands how to manage
competing priorities, bring people together, and deliver measurable results. He
maintains great professional relationships with his colleagues, his teams, labour unions,
construction leaders and governing agencies including Ontario Health, Ontario Ministry
of Health & Long-Term Care, Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, WSIB,
Ministry of Labour and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) to name a
few.
He has overseen multimillion-dollar budgets, implemented strong fiscal-management
practices in both public and private-sector environments, and worked with Ontario
provincial ministries to secure critical funding for construction projects, new builds,
specialized behavioral care programs, essential equipment, and other capital projects.
Michael’s experience brings the financial accountability, strategic thinking, and
operational expertise needed to help Mississauga address today’s challenges while
planning responsibly for the future.

Michael’s qualifications are built on a lifetime of leadership, service, and results. He
holds the prestigious Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and Certified
Human Resources Leader (CHRL) professional designations from the Human
Resources Professionals Association of Ontario and is an Ontario-licensed Long-Term
Care Administrator.
An alumnus of Sheridan and Mohawk Colleges with honours in Human Resources and
Industrial Relations, Michael has continually invested in his professional development.
His advanced education, certifications, and training span several critical areas, including
Executive Leadership & Organizational Change, Project and Construction Management,
Financial Management and Budgeting, Facilities Management, Labour & Employee
Relations, Occupational Health & Safety, Emergency and Incident Management
Systems, Buildings Automated Systems, Fire Code Compliance, Buildings Security
Systems, Cyber Security, Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care and Palliative Care.
This unique combination of executive leadership, fiscal responsibility, regulatory
expertise, and frontline operational experience has prepared Michael to tackle complex
challenges, make informed decisions, and deliver practical solutions for the residents of
Ward 6 and Mississauga.
His record of leading organizations, managing substantial public resources, and uniting
diverse stakeholders positions him to be a strong, effective voice at City Hall.

Throughout his career, Michael has built a reputation for bringing people together to
solve complex challenges and deliver meaningful results.
As an experienced labour-relations professional and senior executive, he has worked
successfully with employees, unions, boards, municipal leaders, and government
partners to foster collaboration, resolve disputes, and build stronger organizations and
communities.
Michael has also worked closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and
multidisciplinary project teams to oversee major capital projects, helping ensure they
were delivered safely, efficiently, and with strong fiscal accountability.
His experience managing large-scale operations, infrastructure investments, and public
resources has provided him with the practical skills needed to help Mississauga grow
responsibly while protecting taxpayers’ interests.



A Commitment to Community Service
Michael is deeply committed to serving his community. As Volunteer Chair of Family
Council in Long-Term Care in Mississauga, he has advocated for residents and families
while championing quality care, transparency, and meaningful engagement between
families and care providers. Michael sits on several professional committees including
with the Ministry of Long Term Care, Ontario Health and the Human Resources
Professional Association of Ontario (HRPA).
This volunteer experience has strengthened his understanding of the issues affecting
seniors, caregivers, and local families. It also reflects the values that will guide his work
at City Hall: listening to residents, standing up for the community, and ensuring people
have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect them.
